It was the spring of 1989 that my son, Ari and I found our new home in Matawan, tucked into the woods with three bedrooms, a garage and a basement. I had already sold our house so we were relieved we finally found our home to fit our requirements. It has been perfect for us to live, entertain and for each of my sons to return to during their college years.
From the beginning I enjoyed the slower pace of the area close to the main highways but far enough away to seem like country without being isolated. I now share my home with my second husband. We are particular about food and are regulars at the variety of food markets including De Marco’s Italian Best, two super markets and the corner farm markets opening each summer for the best of New Jersey corn, tomatoes, berries and figs. I am a regular to see Jason at Pete’s Fishery for the best of fish and stop at Abbate’s to see Maria, who is famous in our family for apple strudel and éclairs.
Chinese, Japanese and Italian food; pick your fare. We love the new Ganga fine dining with delicate dumplings, vegetable, fish and meat that melt in your mouth.
Since I return regularly to Manhattan and my sons have lived there since graduating from college, we enjoy the direct and easy commute by train, bus or car.
